The Two Planes
Here's something I know about the elements:
They exist on two planes - the physical and the metaphysical.
The physical elements are the earth, air, fire and water you can touch.
The metaphysical elements are the spiritual manifestations of earth, air, fire and water that exist in the mind.
They are completely different from one another.
For example, you can extinguish metaphysical fire in your mind in a split second using nothing but your imagination, but to extinguish physical fire you need a hose full of its opposing element, water.
When we are talking about elemental magic, are we talking about the elements of one plane or the other or both?

The two planes connect, as in Plato's cave, what we see in the physical world is a shadow, an echo of a deeper world, which itself may just be an echo of an even deeper existence.
Even in metaphysics they talk about reality being made up of great flat sheets floating in the void, with all of the physical world consisting of emanations, like notes played by an instrument, resolving themselves into the physical reality we see all around us.

Oh yeah that's true. The metaphysical world is the same as the quantum world, the world inside atoms, the energy world at the root of this one, the real one to which this world is a shadow. In this sense, the quantum elements are all made of the same stuff - pure energy. I believe that the human mind is directly connected to the quantum world, as it works in ways that go beyond physical reality. For example, in the mind, a tree can morph into a chalice, and then explode into a rainbow of colour, but this cannot happen in the physical world.
If our bodies are physical, then our souls are metaphysical, I'd say.

Just a thought.....Would not a flat plane/s floating in a {multi dimensional} void be kinda like thinking the earth was flat?
Also, in theory could not a physical object such as the tree be changed if one could sync their energy to the trees and then alter it...providing of course the person was capable of manipulating and/or altering their own energy.
